History

First appeared in Divine Husbandman's Classic of the Materia Medica, classified as middle class.

Introduction
The horn of the male beast of Cervus nippon Temminck or C. elaphus L., family Cerridae.
Modern Usage
Deer horn contains pantocrine, which has been shown to enhance the healing of chronic wounds, ulcerations, bone fractures and act as a general tonic to improve sleep, appetite, overcome fatigue and increase red blood cell count.
Traditional Usage
Deer antler is a salty, warming substance that enters the liver and kidney meridians. It is used for reinforcing kidney yang, replenishing vital essence and blood, tonifying, strengthening sinews and bones, and invigorating in general. It can be used to treat symptoms of kidney yang deficiency such as impotence, soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees, dizziness and tinnitus. It is also used to strengthen bones, sinews and joints that have been weakened due to liver and kidney deficiencies.
